What is Cupping?
Cupping therapy dates back to ancient cultures in China, Egypt, Greece and the Middle East.
Cupping has gained increased popularity due to its use by professional athletes for recovery.
There are different types of cupping, including:
- Fire Cupping – done with glass cups. Involves creating suction by removing the air inside the cup with fire. The cup is then quickly placed on the patients skin which creates suction. The cup itself does not touch the fire and remains cold.
- Suction cupping – done with an air pump, and plastic or silicone cups.
Cupping works through increasing circulation, causing vasodilation and removing impaired circulation.
